Castles and Stately Homes On The Air – Ireland, CASHOTA – Ireland

Castles And Stately Homes On The Air – Ireland, in brief CASHOTA Ireland, applies to Amateur Radio operations made from a castle, stately homes. They will be identified by a three part reference number: – Two letters for Country of origin: For example: EI Country, three figures for the activation order: 001, 002, 003, number of castle – C (Castle) or SH (Stately Home).

Reference number will be given on request 10 days at least before the intended activity; request should be addressed to the CASHOTA Committee either by e-mail or by post with one SASE. Any castle not previously listed will be accepted by the Committee on providing the exact geographical position, with one picture if possible Expeditions.

Amateur Radio Operation must take place as close to the Castle as deemed safe and permission should be authorised by owners or Trusts. To be validated by the CASHOTA Committee, a minimum of 10 contacts in HF or 5 contacts in V- or UHF should be made within one single operation period. A copy of the log-book (on paper or electronically) should be submitted to the CASHOTA committee within the following two months after the activity.

During the Radio Amateur Operation, in addition to the exchanged reports, it is strongly recommended to give not only a brief description of the used radio equipment but also to give some information concerning the origin and the history of the castle.In participating to such operation, Hams commit themselves to answer within six months maximum to any QSL demand, either in direct or via bureau.

The award is available either in CW, phone or digi modes on all HF bands (from 10 to 160m) or in VHF – UHF bands (6m 2m and 70cm), Any contacts made by repeaters, satellites or IRLP or ECHO LINK or mobile phone will not be accepted.

Basic Award: 25 Castles.

Any award application should be presented under the form of CASHOTA list with reference numbers, call sign of the Amateur Radio Station, date, QTR, QRG, RST and mode. QSL cards must be available to controllers on single request.

Award may also be applied for by SWL’s under the same conditions as those applicable to the Licensed Amateur Radio Operators.

All applications must be addressed to the CASHOTA Ireland Award Manager: EI5DD Steve Wright, C/O Dept OF Pathology, University College Hospital, Galway, Ireland

The award fee is USD10 or GB5 this to cover printing and postage. This amount will be revised on a yearly basis.

CASHOTA Committee reserves the right to modify subject rules, taking into account that every validation for previous expeditions will still be validated.
